FOCUS ON: Yorktown, NY

In Yorktown, the recently proclaimed Monarch Butterfly Friendly Town, you’ll find
the coming together of the conveniences of city life with the peacefulness of the countryside.

The Jefferson Valley Mall and downtown shopping centers give convenient access to an
array of retail and entertainment options.

While the North County Trail, Turkey Mountain and Kitchawan Preserve provide an escape
into the wooded hills of Westchester County.

Yorktown has:

  • Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park
  • Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center
  • John E. Hand Memorial Park at Bald Mountain: A 112-acre park consisting of native
woodlands with excellent hiking opportunities and a spectacular view from the top.
  • Kitchawan Preserve: Hiking and walking trails, nature study.
  • Turkey Mountain: The 125 acre preserve, owned by the Town of Yorktown, offers summit
views at 831 feet to the Croton Reservoir and dam, the Hudson River; the New York City
skyline to the south; Bear Mountain, and across the Hudson.
  • Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary at Willow Park: Willow Park will become a monarch butterfly
sanctuary where volunteers planted milkweed plants that nourish monarch caterpillars.
The butterfly sanctuary is intended to sustain the monarchs as they migrate north and
south to their summer and winter habitats in North America.
  • Yorktown Stage:  Featuring the “Best in Family Entertainment” with live musicals and
    theatre camp workshops.
  • The Yorktown Museum: A place to discover the Old Put Railroad and see how local farms
operated, or to find unique gifts, enjoy fascinating and detailed miniatures and conduct
    research.
